According to her bio in the ODB (here, subscription required), the book contains "interwoven scenes looping around the suicide of the artist Benjamin Robert Haydon in July 1846, involving the Carlyles, Browning, Dickens, and even the duke of Wellington, combining meticulous research with fluent storytelling."
