What a lovely painting - especially love how the woman looks so relaxed, and yet the cat is fully aware of the artist, keeping its beady eyes on him! Love the play of light on the hair of the woman, on the cat's white 'bib' and on the sofa ... a very suitable painting for Sunday. Margaret P
This is actually a memory - not of the painting, which I wish I owned. A memory of me with the sweet Marmelade Gypsy, reading together, hearing the nearby purr. Sigh. What a nice memory for this gloomy Sunday.
The purr is wonderful, Jeanie. I've always had at least one ginger cat in my life at any moment, so I understand how you miss Marmelade Gypsy at these times.
This is exactly how my cat and I have been spending most of this Sunday. I love this cat's gaze out of the painting! (My cat is more focused on getting between me and my reading.)
Yes, Elizabeth! I did think that while this was such a perfect capturing of ideal Sunday-ness, my two would be pinning me down until my legs went numb and sitting on my chest obscuring my vision!

You've captured it so well Margaret - I love the light behind her too coming in perfectly on her reading.
DeleteI love these sorts of paintings, pretty abstract and the method of painting itself. Unusual to see such a pointed look at the painter, the cat there.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Charlie! It is interesting the woman so involved in her reading, and the cat taking on the role of the portrait subject!

DeleteLovely picture. I'm looking forward to getting a cat sometime again (I miss my old ones).
ReplyDeleteThey make a lazy Sunday perfect (purrfect), Sarah! Go on!
